Norman Lewis DIXON [scrapbook] was born 3 Sep 1820 in Jennings County, NY. He died 21 Jun 1901 in Martinsville, Indiana. Norman married Mahala BRYANT on 28 Jun 1847.

Norman was a Private in Company C, 57th Regiment of the INtiana Volunteers, serving in the Civil War.  He enlisted 7 Oct 1861 and was dischared 11 Oct 1864.  He is discribed in his discharge papers as 6 feet tall, dark complexion, dark eyes, dark hair, and by occupation a carpenter.  According to his obituary he was captured at Rome, GA during Colonel Streight's famous raid, and taken to Libby Prison where he endured the hearships of prison life for quite some time.  He was finally exchanged and served the remainder of his term of service.  

His obituary also indicates hat he inlisted on 17 May 1846 and served in the Mexican war for one year, taking an active part in all battles, and was discharged as a corporal 17 May 1847.

Mahala BRYANT died 15 Nov 1886. She married Norman Lewis DIXON on 28 Jun 1847.
