Captain Sir William FERNALD [Parents] was born 12 Jun 1575 in Heidelburg, Germany and was christened 12 Jun 1575 in Church of the Holy Ghost, Baden, Germany. He died 1650 in England. William married Elizabeth Washington AMAND on 16 May 1594.

Capt Sir William Fernald, son of Dr. John and Anninetta (DeColigny) of Tremontain, Earl of South Hampton was an officer in the British Navy, fought the Spanish Armada when only 13 yr of age, was commander of the "Garland" in the Cadiz Expedition, April 1596. He was knighted by Exxes, Oct. 8. 1579 and created a Viscount in 1624.
Married on 5-16-1594 to Elizabeth, daughter of commander Amand of the British Navy.

Sir William, in possession of the sword of Dr. Jean Francis Fernald, which was a Damascus blade, it's hilt being 4%
gold and made in Italy, to his eldest son, Dr. Renald Fernald. It is believed that this sword, along with his wife's silver teapot, given to Elizabeth by Queen Elizabeth of England for whom she had been named. Queen Elizabeth gave her the teapot as a souvenier, made of ancient silver, made by Francis DeMedici, Grand Duke of Tuscany about 1580 and is now (as of 1930) in the possession of Charles Augustus Fernald, M.D., 1483 Washington Street, Boston, MA.
